Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948)

This is the first in the comedy duo series with the classic horror monsters and this movie is interesting for a couple of different reasons. By the time this movie came out the monster series except for ironically my favorite one of the group, which we will be getting to after Abbott and Costello had made most of their monster movies, had all wound down but this movie series gave them all one last chance to shine including the actors who had played them.

Both Chaney and Lugosi did their usual roles in this movie and I don’t think either of them would be quite at that same peak again. Lugosi’s career definitely declined after this while Chaney on the other hand might have had a couple more decades worth of movies to make but also would be under the weather due to his insecurity from trying to be like his father and struggling with alcohol usage. This movie was a nice tribute for both of them and took them both back to their glory days.
