Scarlet Claw (1944)

Sherlock Holmes goes to Canada in this movie. There he encounters a ghostly beast that has been scaring the crap out of people in a small village. Running through the marshes at night while glowing in the dark, thanks to some trick editing, could certainly have that effect on people. The beast isn’t content to just scare people, it wants to kill, too, and quickly a couple of bodies pile up. Apparently, this creature has a vendetta and it’s not actually a creature after all, just some guy who wants his murders to look like they were committed by a creature. The atmosphere is good in this movie and the action is pretty great, too. Furthermore I like the plot of using the ghost to cover up for who was actually doing the murders.
