We reach the final dregs of 1943 with this noire movie starring Lon Chaney Jr. Unlike most of his better movies when he was either a man made monster or a werewolf, the movie studio took a big chance by giving Chaney several movies that would actually allow him to act and this of course led to some seriously mixed results. This was the first in a series of half a dozen movies from the Inner Sanctum series, most of which were either incredibly dull or pretty damn terrible. That being said, aside from some really annoying voice over work from Chaney trying to sound dramatic, this movie manages to serve as a decent example of 1940s noire. Most of the people involved in this movie look depressed but the story is pretty good and the resolution is decent, too.
