Larceny Inc. (1942)

Edgar G. Robinson has a different role from usual as a shop keeper who runs a luggage store. In typical fashion he is still up to no good while trying to rob a bank next door by digging a large hole in the basement with help from the work mule, Broderick Crawford. They have some trouble with an escaped gangster played by Anthony Quinn who was also in Ghostbreakers with Bob Hope and this mostly takes place on Christmas. It’s an enjoyable holiday movie without being too focused on the season. Robinson does dress up as Santa Claus at one point after his friend, Crawford, gets his lights knocked out by a customer on the street when they are trying to have a look out/distraction. Robinson breaking out of his usual character and playing Santa of all things is truly a sight to behold.
